It didn't start out with me crying on the floor. At first, I tried to ignore it. I tried to soothe him. I tried letting him stay up later. I tried moving his crib. I tried a different room. I tired a different bed. I tried different pajamas. I tried everything I could come up with on my own, everything I could find on-line, everything my sisters suggested, everything strangers suggested, everything the doctor suggested...I would have tried just about anything. Crying was my last option.
So while that was going on, nothing else got accomplished. After the screaming subsided each night I tried to at least make sure the dishes were done, the laundry was completed, and a bill or two were paid, but my house turned in to what appeared to be a war zone.
We could no longer see the kitchen table or the counter top on the island. Then the junk drawer broke, so we can no longer see the counter top next to the fridge either. Then the holidays were upon us...so Christmas also began to take over the house...even though there was still a war going on between junk in one pile and junk in another pile. Stuff was EVERYWHERE...and everything that once had a place...no longer had a place.
Living in a cluttered war zone can make an almost crazy person actually crazy, or so I've learned. STUFF makes me want to throw away STUFF...or take a week off work, send my family away, and let me take care of the problem. Well...that ain't gonna happen, so I'm stuck trying to work my full-time job during the day and then come home and work another full-time job. And sleep somewhere in between bus rides and dirty diapers and laundry heaps.
I love my husband, but anyone who is married knows there is little help around the house coming from the Y chromosome that any of us live with. And I am lucky...I now have two Y chromosomes living under this roof. I love them both, but dang...they are a lot of work. A lot of running behind them to put their stuff away after they're done with it...because everything does have a place, the item just has to get there.
So now that the screaming is over, I've spent the last week or so trying my best to get the left over shrapnel and un-exploded bombs put away before they actually DO go off. Christmas is put away, the play room is now just that, the front room is back to normal, the kitchen table is half cleaned off, the kabillion loads of laundry are done and put away, the dusting is done, the vacuuming will never be done, but it is for this weekend, the bills are paid, the dishes are done, the baby's room is dusted and restocked, the diaper bag is packed, I hung a TV and it's accessories, I ordered a bunch of what I need for the baby's birthday party, we went to the train park, we celebrated the New Year...that's all I can remember.
This week I will teach myself how to fix a drawer, work on cleaning up my messy "office," and work on a HUGE gift that needs sent off in the next two weeks (and I think I'm on my own...no help from my Y chromosome on that one, unfortunately).
At least I will be able to remember why I didn't get to Blip's 10 month post until more than half way to the 11 month post...and same with his 10 month pictures. Ugh. Oh well...every month can't be perfectly on-time.
Sooooo....Blip turned 10 months old on December 10th. The month prior was very busy...and crazy for me with all the screaming at night. Here's the baby's month in review...at least what I can remember...sad, I know.
On the 10th Blip sat up all by himself. It is so cute...and now he is very stable and doesn't want to lay down. Not even to have his diaper changed. We blame the reflux for that, but I'm sure he enjoys sitting up to see more of what's going on around him.
On the November 13th Blip played pee-a-boo with me for the first time. It was one of my favorite moments so far as a mother. He now plays with us on a regular basis...it's still just as cute.
At Blip's well check on the 14th, he weighed in at 21 lbs 6 oz...putting him in the 63rd percentile for weight. He was still exactly 31 inches long...keeping him off the charts for height. We also went to the doctor on the 29th for Blip's reflux issue. That day he weighed in at 21 lbs 7 oz...in the 65th percentile. He was still 31 inches long...and still of the charts.
On the 17th we ran the Undy 5k together as a family. It was fun and a great way to celebrate Grandma Dianne's birthday.
We took Blip to see a chiropractor on the 21st for the first time. Daddy took Blip back several more times for a few weeks to see if being adjusted helped with Blip's sleep issues/reflux at all. Mike didn't see much of a difference, so he stopped taking him. I wish we would have tried a few weeks longer, but it's up to Dad to get the baby there while I'm at work, so it was his decision.
We celebrated Blip's first Thanksgiving this year on the 22nd. This year we celebrated with Mike's family at Kelly's house.
Blip also visited the eye doctor this month. We learned he does NOT have a "lazy eye," but he does has a wide (nose) bridge...giving the appearance at times that he has a lazy eye. Blip is also far sighted. According to Dr. Glonek, this is normal for infants, but Blip's vision is slightly worse than a typical infant his age. He also has an astigmatism...which is not helping his vision. The doctor told us not to worry, that this could all be corrected itself still, and to come back in six months to make sure Blip doesn't need glasses to help correct this issue(s).
We really liked the doctor, but after our appointment we learned our insurance does not cover Dr. G. I will be contacting our insurance company to discuss what they would suggest for us to do since Cigna refused to see Blip at this young age for his vision. Should be fun.
