So THIS year…I started my inner debates in the summer…in hopes I would be able to choose something and just buy the damn tickets. I talked to Richelle about keeping Blip, so that was covered…so that left debating with Rob for hours and hours over the course of a few weeks about different locations. I finally decided we should cross NYC off the bucket list.
I wasn't sure how Mike would react to traveling across the entire country…away from his son, so I decided to book the trip and surprise him. Then he couldn't try to change my mind…and our much needed time away would be set in stone. Or at least nonrefundable plane tickets.
Our big day finally came…we dropped Blip off at school and Carlys took us to the airport. I did my very best to make sure everything for Blip was packed and taken care of prior to us leaving…in hopes of making Richelle's week less stressful. I never worried a second about him staying with Richelle, but I didn't want him to be a burden to her, her family, or her schedule. Well…anymore of a burden than adding a toddler to your chaotic life is.
We got through security and only had a few minutes to kill before we boarded. I surprised Mike with First Class tickets thanks to all of the points we have been saving. I started saving points about 10 years ago when I went to Italy. I wanted to go back someday…but didn't want to fly in steerage for that long of a flight. I decided my First Class to Europe dreams are definitely on hold for the next decade or so. We should have done that BEFORE having two kids. I decided this was the perfect excuse to use a few of the points I had saved.
We loaded into the train from Newark Airport to Penn Station. That part was a piece of cake. Once off the train and dragging our luggage through Penn Station…not knowing which direction was what…that was more intimidating, but we found the taxi line and waited for our turn. After about 30 minutes, we loaded our bags into a cab and headed towards our hotel- The New York Palace. I'll never forget the address (because we had to say it so many dang times on this trip)- 455 Madison.
The hotel was gorgeous. Our room was booked in the Towers portion of the hotel…and it did not disappoint. Our gorgeous room overlooked Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick's Cathedral. I was giddy with excitement. We were hungry, so after getting settled we went downstairs to ask about a restaurant. We initially talked about getting food and eating in the room because we had an early morning scheduled the next day. The restaurant was only a few blocks away, so we decided to walk and enjoy the food there. It was a beautiful night…not too cold, so it was perfect.
Finding the restaurant, Mr. K's, was easy enough and the food was awesome. We aren't sure what all of it was, but everything was delicious. We shared an appetizer to share, but we each ended up getting our own. We ate it all, so I guess it wasn't a bad idea. We ordered the Chicken Supreme, Lo Mein noodles, and something else neither of us can remember. But it was all good. After enjoying the food and each other's company (without anyone else wiping food on my shirt) we walked back to the hotel.
Before heading up to our room for the night, we stopped in and bought some treats from the bakery in the hotel. So we hung out, enjoyed the view and snacked on cookies before getting a few hours of sleep.
I loved to sit at our window and just look…the view was awesome both day and night. I loved everything about our room and the view and the hotel…there is nothing I would change.
