Sea World San Diego

On Tuesday we decided to head to Sea World with Jake and Cody.  We only spent the afternoon and evening there, but it turned out to be the perfect amount of time for all four of us.  We saw the sharks, the turtles, the sea lions, the rays, the penguins, the dolphins, ate a couple of times, saw Shamu Rocks, and we watched the fireworks before heading home.  Mike and Jake also rode one of the newer roller coasters called the Manta.  They waited a long time to ride it, and even got the front car!  They were so cute.  It worked out perfectly because Blip fell asleep, so he was able to sleep a long time...which made the Shamu show great...instead of awful.

Blip seemed to like seeing all the animals, but he really loved watching Shamu.  We decided we would make a trip back with our passes so we could take Blip to see more of the shows we missed.  He loves being outside, and rides in the stroller without complaint.  I always bring along my Ergo carrier for waiting in lines or for the shows, etc.  I love that thing…it was worth every penny.  Blip likes it too…so that helps.  He's getting big enough that I should start carrying him on my back, but I love him in the pouch up front.  It's the most cuddling I get to do with him these days, so it's hard to want him behind me instead of close enough to smell his yummy baby smell.

We paid for the all day eating pass, and we think it was worth it…even for only half of the day.  We knew we were going to buy that pass, so we waited to eat lunch until we were in the park.  It's $32.99 for adults and $16.99 for kids (ages 3-9). Each meal comes with a main course (kid's meal for the kiddos), a side OR dessert, and a drink.  We ate pizza for lunch, but that didn't fill Mike up, so we stopped off somewhere else later, and he ate some chicken.  Jake got pizza with us for lunch, and then he ordered chicken strips and fries when Mike got chicken.  He ate some of the fries, but let Blip eat the chicken.  Good thing Jake doesn't normally eat meat…

For dinner we each ordered something different- I got teriyaki chicken with rice pilaf and veggies because I knew Blip would eat that (the chicken part…not the veggies). I also ordered a side of salmon.  Mike ordered ribs, veggies and fries.  We made Jake order something, but he didn't really eat anything.  He's a strange bird, but he eats when he's hungry…so good enough for me.  He did enjoy a few bites of his chocolate cake he ordered for dessert.  We definitely ate more than $32.99 per person, so it was worth it.  It would have been even better had we been there for breakfast, too.

I also talked Mike into buying us two souvenir cups.  Frozen refills were $2.89 and soda refills were $.99.  A regular frozen drink was almost $5..same with a soda.  The souvenir cups were $8.99 each.  I don't think we refilled them that first day, but on our return trip they paid off.  Jake, Blip, and I shared a frozen lemonade, and Mike had a soda.

Blip fell asleep on our way home.  We woke him up to bathe him because we had lathered him in sunscreen several times throughout the day.  He went back to sleep easily…he was probably dreaming of the little baby Shamu we got to see swimming with his momma.  The baby was tiny (for a whale)…we learned he was about five months old and was named Makani (Hawaiian for "the wind").  Makani was allowed to swim along side his mother during most of the show, but was clearly just swimming with his mom and had no idea what was going on.  It was so cute.

My favorite part of the day was the warm up portion of the Shamu show.  It was a warm up for the crowd, not the animals.  They have a guy who comes out to get the audience pumped…and he did a good job and the audience actually got involved, too.  Blip danced on my lap to the fun music, and had fun with the bubble guns Mike bought for him and Jake. Blip has started dancing every time he hears music…it's just about the best thing ever.  He's so cute…and it's so fun to watch him get so excited.
